The Bearshead Napa Valley DVD

Why be a Wine Geek, when you could be a Guru?

The complete guide to the Terroir, History, Winemaking and Tours of this beautiful place and its wines.

"a lavishly filmed tour de force" ForbesLife

Latest Review
This is a splendid DVD that takes you on a trip to each of the different appellations in Napa Valley, with around five hours of information formatted into mini documentaries of 1 to 7 minutes. Simply pick a mini documentary and pour a DEAN & DELUCA wine from that appellation, learning all about its special characteristics while sipping along in your own home We love this as a gift for new Cali wine fans.

Higher Education
While you were enjoying the Bearshead Napa Valley DVD your knowledge of the history and winegrowing of this remarkable place has been raised to stratospheric levels- easily earning you "Guru" status. For those eager to go further there are two new opportunities this month: Pat Alexander of the Napa Valley Museum has a new history of Yountville, containing wonderful old photographs of life before Thomas Keller. There will be a launch party at the Museum on April 18th. Meanwhile, if your thirst for wine knowledge has not been slaked by our mini documentaries on all 21 sub-regions of the Valley, Karen MacNeil and her crew at the CIA are ready to take you to a new level with their 2-day "Napa Valley Intensive" course on April 21-22.

Finance
In the past whenever anyone has asked me about the wisdom of investing in wine I have always pointed out that the only advantage to it is that when all else fails you still have something left to drink. I hadn't really considered that "all else" just might go ahead and fail! While the charity auctions are still holding up remarkably well under the circumstances, nevertheless prices are certainly down considerably, so if you can do it this is an extraordinarily good time to bargain hunt and simultaneously help out a worthy local organization. Wouldn't you rather be sitting on a cellarful of the rare and unique bottlings you can find at these events, than near-worthless bank/auto/insurance stocks?

Spring is here!
No matter what might be happening elsewhere, the vineyards are returning to life with a vengeance. This is always an extraordinarily beautiful time of year, and the energy of vintners and viticulturalists is infectious, so with Bearshead Napa Valley as your guide we encourage you to visit soon.

Cheers!

Kerry and James

Charity wine auctions are a great source for rare and unusual bottlings. While prices can get quite steep at the big name live auctions (although you shouldn't forget the tax breaks, nor the karmic returns on your philanthropic self indulgences.. ), it is often well worth checking out the attendant silent auctions for more affordable gems.
We make no guarantees that this calendar is comprehensive, and would be very grateful for any suggestions of upcoming events that we should know about.
