Latest Review
This is a splendid DVD that takes you on a trip to each of the different appellations in Napa Valley, with around five hours of information formatted into mini documentaries of 1 to 7 minutes. Simply pick a mini documentary and pour a DEAN & DELUCA wine from that appellation, learning all about its special characteristics while sipping along in your own home We love this as a gift for new Cali wine fans.

Review of May....

7:45pm and there's a crowd jostling to get into St Helena's biggest jeweler- is this Valentine's eve? Evidence that the recession is over in the Valley? Proof that Napa Cabs can ignite fire in the coldest hearts/open the tightest wallet? No, just the welcome return of Cheers! If you missed it you have another chance to test your self control on Friday, June 4th, and every first Friday until October to see old friends, try new wines, see bands/magicians/jugglers, try great street food, and enjoy the new sport of wine and shop pairing: for me the unbeatable combination so far is Pope Valley Winery and Brown's Auto Parts. Also let your children enjoy the junior version of Cheers! at the Boys and Girls Club, where fun abounds. After the Wine Train was welcomed in St Helena for Cheers! attendees, we thought we were prepared for anything but noboby was really prepared for the wettest and coldest May on record, and we are all keeping our fingers crossed that the grapes bounce back.

In spite of a hailstorm the Grace Church Rummage Sale was the best yet- raising $43,000 for
orphans around the World. Many thanks to all who helped in any way, particularly all you shoppers.

....Preview of June

Since you all saved so much money at the Rummage Sale-- you have plenty to blow on another great cause: the 30th Annual Auction Napa Valley, hosted this year by Spotteswood. If you can't make it to the main event you can still bid on-line, and be a part of this extraordinary fundraiser that does so much for the Valley.

If waiting a whole month for another Cheers! seems too long, you can get a weekly fix of local good feeling at Oxbow on Tuesday evening's Locals Night, with live music, $1 oysters, and market wide "Happy Hour" pricing. On the other hand if you just want to get away from all this June madness- take a cruise with Rubicon Estate (Baltic) or Clos du Val (Mediterranean) or Robert Mondavi/Franciscan/Mt Veeder Wineries (Mediterranean)!

Cheers,

James and Kerry

Charity wine auctions are a great source for rare and unusual bottlings. While prices can get quite steep at the big name live auctions (although you shouldn't forget the tax breaks, nor the karmic returns on your philanthropic self indulgences.. ), it is often well worth checking out the attendant silent auctions for more affordable gems.
We make no guarantees that this calendar is comprehensive, and would be very grateful for any suggestions of upcoming events that we should know about. Sometimes events are announced or changed after we have sent out this e-mail: later in the month you might want to check the updated on-line version here
