Latest Review
This is a splendid DVD that takes you on a trip to each of the different appellations in Napa Valley, with around five hours of information formatted into mini documentaries of 1 to 7 minutes. Simply pick a mini documentary and pour a DEAN & DELUCA wine from that appellation, learning all about its special characteristics while sipping along in your own home We love this as a gift for new Cali wine fans.

Cheers! St Helena
St Helena's sidewalks have been rolled up by 5pm every night for so long that we have all assumed that this was a law of nature. Apart from restaurants the only establishments to regularly flout this rule have been Ana's (famous for its free wi-fi, so you can order the Bearshead Napa Valley DVD from Amazon) and Peters (where you can buy the DVD right then and there). On Friday May 1st this long standing tradition will be swept away with the advent of Cheers! St Helena, which will bring wine drinking and meeting up with friends and neighbors deep into the St Helena night (ie 9pm- although there is an after party at the Cameo with live music). This is shocking I know, and letters to the editor will doubtless be written, but it is only happening once a month, so there is a strong chance the world will not come to an end . Should you get the bug for being out this late at other times in the month: Calistoga and Yountville have been doing it for years.

Recession Chic
The second biggest event of the Napa Valley year-Norm Manzer’s Grace Church Russia Rummage Sale- is upon us (May 16 & 17). This 2 day extravaganza funds two half-way houses for Orphans in Vladimir, Russia, while at the same time outfitting half the Valley and emptying the other half's closets: everybody wins, and with the savings to your clothing/furniture/book/toy/tool budget you will have plenty of funds for the biggest event of the year, Auction Napa Valley, which will be around again in June under the direction of the Trefethen Family (stars of the Bearshead Napa Valley DVD). Please contact Norm if you have donations, or deliver them to the Native Sons Hall on Friday 15th. All contributions gratefully received!

Farmer's Markets
May brings the reopening of the Farmers Markets in St Helena, Calistoga & Napa. This is the Valley's equivalent of the skiers' "all lifts are open", and the secret ingredient behind a lot of great dinners. This is also another opportunity to feel like you are a part of a community while supporting all the GREEN goodness the market has to offer. "Think globally, shop locally".

Cheers!

Kerry and James

Charity wine auctions are a great source for rare and unusual bottlings. While prices can get quite steep at the big name live auctions (although you shouldn't forget the tax breaks, nor the karmic returns on your philanthropic self indulgences.. ), it is often well worth checking out the attendant silent auctions for more affordable gems.
We make no guarantees that this calendar is comprehensive, and would be very grateful for any suggestions of upcoming events that we should know about. Sometimes events are announced or changed after we have sent out this e-mail: later in the month you might want to check the updated on-line version here
