Latest Review
This is a splendid DVD that takes you on a trip to each of the different appellations in Napa Valley, with around five hours of information formatted into mini documentaries of 1 to 7 minutes. Simply pick a mini documentary and pour a DEAN & DELUCA wine from that appellation, learning all about its special characteristics while sipping along in your own home We love this as a gift for new Cali wine fans.

Harvest Time & Global Warming

It's good to be back in the Valley with Harvest in full swing. September means Harvest parties and Cakebread Cellars' American Harvest Workshop- the ultimate foodie dream.

I have always maintained that Napa Valley is how I imagine Scotland might look after Global Warming. Now leading (or publicity seeking) French chefs and sommeliers are joining me in claiming that Scotland will be the new Bordeaux. This year's Lonach Highland Gathering added some credibility to the idea with glorious sunshine, but whisky lovers will be reassured to hear that Scotland's West Coast was reliably wet and misty, so it might be premature to panic.

Beat the Bridge Closure

For all of you traveling to the Napa Valley in September here is a heads up: September 3rd to 8th San Francisco Bay Bridge will be closed so it's worth considering alternate routes to get to all the wonderful things on offer that week. Otherwise you could just stay home and watch Harvest on the Bearshead Napa Valley DVD with a bottle or two.

Cheers! St Helena is going from strength to strength, staying late with 6 live bands, including a marching band, keeping the neighborhood spirit alive until after 10 p.m! Throughout the month there are Auctions and Open Art Studios and a plethora of amusements - see the calendar for details.

If you can't actually make it to the Valley Chicago seems to be the best runner up: with the Vintners' Taste Napa Valley festival, and a host of Vintner Dinners.

Cheers!

Kerry and James

Charity wine auctions are a great source for rare and unusual bottlings. While prices can get quite steep at the big name live auctions (although you shouldn't forget the tax breaks, nor the karmic returns on your philanthropic self indulgences.. ), it is often well worth checking out the attendant silent auctions for more affordable gems.
We make no guarantees that this calendar is comprehensive, and would be very grateful for any suggestions of upcoming events that we should know about. Sometimes events are announced or changed after we have sent out this e-mail: later in the month you might want to check the updated on-line version here
